Abstract

Competition in global market is highly increases, causes a company should find some methods to meet its customers' needs. Continual improvement in product quality is an obligation and an important part of a company's business strategy. It is also happened to PT Goodrich Pindad Aeronautical Systems Indonesia which has the goal in produce quality products with competitive prices. This research was conducted at PT Goodrich Pindad Aeronautical Systems Indonesia which located at Jln. Jend.Gatot Subroto No. 517 Bandung. The product which observed is Aileron, as an aircraft component manufactured by PT Goodrich Pindad Aeronautical Systems Indonesia with zero defect standard. The variables studied are defects that occur in machining process and plating process.

Six Sigma is an approach on improving the product quality to be near perfect. To achieve Six Sigma, a process should not exceed more than 3.4 defects per million opportunities. To measure and respond a performance, Six Sigma model is used with define, measure, analyze, improve and control (DMAIC) method. In the define stage, it is determined the object research and its purpose and selection of critical to quality (CTQ) of selected object. While at measure phase, it is calculating Sigma value along with DPMO value. At the analyze stage, an analysis of the process capability and the cause of defect is identified. At the improve stage, a corrective action is determined. Finally, the control stage is analyzed for changes that occur in sigma and DPMO values.

The results showed that the performance of the Aileron product manufacturing process has DPMO level as much as 8.344 and the sigma level of 3.893. The influence factors for the outcome are due to machinery, operators, materials, work environment, and methods to improve those factors.
